Position Overview:

Molecular Templates is seeking a highly-skilled and highly-motivated professional to support accounting functions. The Sr. Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day operations and maintenance of accounting systems. This includes preparing journal entries; maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts; documenting records of assets; and assisting with payroll and stock administration activities.  This requires accounting skills and knowledge, analytical and mathematical skills, organizational and time-management skills, verbal and written communication skills, plus ability to apply attention to detail and manage competing priorities.


 Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform various accounting functions, including but not limited to: prepare general ledger entries, maintain fixed asset and associated depreciation schedules; ensure proper recording of new purchases and disposals; reconcile investment and bank accounts; analysis and verification of reports; and assist with month-end and year-end close processes for all balance sheet and income statement accounts. Ensure accuracy and compliance with all accounting regulations.
  • Manage payroll activities, including but not limited to: ensure timeliness, accuracy and compliance of payroll processing; oversee time card system; align audit requirements; communicate and coordinate with vendor for system upgrades and process changes with employees; track PTO; prepare journal entries and reconciliations; uphold policy and controls, such as SOX, SAS70, and other controls; and understand payroll-related accounting principles
  • Oversee stock administration using Equity Edge, such as capturing grants, executing share releases, maintaining accurate equity plan data, and following payroll reporting procedures.
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Other duties and special projects, as assigned



  • Bachelor's degree from accredited institution in Accounting
  • 3+ years in accounting role
  • Comprehensive and practical knowledge of accounting theories and practices
  • Experience with all functions of accounting, preferred
  • Experience working with Intacct and Equity Edge, preferred
  • Experience in the Life Sciences industry, preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to maintain highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to function independently and exercise good judgement, as well as be a team-player
  • Ability to apply attention to detail as applied to data review and compliance


Reporting Structure:

This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities. This position reports to Director, Accounting Operations.
